Electrospinning, 3D Printing, Cell Culture, Piezoelectric Biomaterials. Frederico Barbosa is a PhD student of the Bioengineering doctoral program organized by Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) - University of Lisbon, under the FCT-supported project: “Multi-layered Biodegradable and Piezoelectric Osteochondral Tissue Scaffolds: An In Vitro Platform for Modelling Osteoarthritis”. His research is focused primarily on the production of novel 3D multi-layered piezoelectric and biodegradable hierarchical scaffolds for the development of in vitro osteochondral disease models. This work is being developed in the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB) and the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), in New York.
Investigation on the role of piezoelectricity and piezoelectric biomaterials in the regeneration of the osteochondral tissue.
