João Camões dos Santos is a PhD Student in Bioengineering, with a thesis focused on establishing and exploring the potential of stem cell models of Angelman syndrome to study disease mechanisms in neurodevelopment. Since his Master’s in Biological Engineering (2022), he has been working on the development of novel stem cell lines either by CRISPR/Cas9-based gene editing or by reprogramming of somatic cells from patients. These cells provide a basis for differentiating brain organoid models of Angelman syndrome, aiming to provide valuable insights of molecular mechanisms and for potential therapeutic strategies.
