A report by SIC-Visão aired on the 4th of October 2012, highlighting a project carried out by Professor Joaquim Cabral, Prof. Claudia L. da Silva and PhD students Francisco dos Santos and Pedro Andrade from SCBL-IBB-IST in collaboration with IPO-Lisboa with which was possible to save the life of a child by using mesenchymal stem cells.

The TV program "Nós por cá" aired on the 17th of April 2009 focused stem cell research in Portugal. The young Portuguese investigator Cláudia Lobato da Silva, from Stem Cell Bioengineering Lab at IBB-IST, was interviewed and showed a good example of bringing medicine and scientific research closer by using engineering as tool for medicine. In this particular the research aims to use stem cells to reverse Graft versus Host Disease (GvHD) in a clinical setting.

Within this last focus Porfessor Cabral elaborated on the participation of the Stem Cell Bioengineering Lab in the Mesenchymal Stem Cell Project on clinical application of this cells in leukemia patients.
